St Johns River

The longest river in Florida, at over 300 miles long, the St Johns River runs as some would say lazy cause of the slow current, fishing here varies from tranquil and relaxing to energetic and exciting. the river is credited with forming many of the surrounding lakes, the widest point is almost 3 miles across, it has three basins and two watersheds. it flows in a northward direction, so the upper basin is actually located at the southern point. the upper basin of the river begins as a network of marshes, west of Vero Beach called the St Johns Marsh, The River is considered black water, fed by swamps and marshes, which brings some monster fish into its waterways. in the middle basin the river is fed primarily by springs and storm water runoff. The Tides cause seawater to enter the St johns river in the lower basin, and the result is a lot of the river here is part seawater, creating an estuarine ecosystem. meaning the animals and plants in the area can survive in fresh and salt water making it for a very interesting fishing experience.
